I work at the intersection of virtual reality, neuroprosthetics, and machine learning to improve the embodiment of neuroprosthetic systems. Embodiment means feeling like a prosthetic is a natural part of the body, moving and responding just like a real limb. It’s about making the prosthetic feel connected to the user’s mind and movements. My focus is on making prosthetic devices feel more natural and intuitive by using VR-driven feedback and measuring cognitive load. By assessing cognitive load—the mental effort required to operate a prosthetic—we can optimize the system to reduce strain and enhance intuitive use. By understanding how the brain adapts to these systems, the aim is to create prosthetics that respond more effortlessly to the user’s intentions, enhancing their sense of ownership and natural control.
